What's this wood?
Image

I'm planning a small jumbo with a three piece back of maple and this wood as the center piece. I got it in a pile of 10 orphan sides I bought a few years ago. Any help in id'ing it would be appreciated.

My guess is koa. It's awfully hard to tell from photos, though.

Definitely a platymicium species, macacauba or hormigo. Hormigo is generally darker than that.

The white balance setting the camera uses can really throw the color curve off so it is almost impossible to say with 100% certainty what the wood is. With all that being said canarywood is my best guess.

The orange-ish color I see along with the white sapwood looks like some Amazon Rosewood I bought a while back

The photos of Guatemalan rosewood that I can find online look like the wood I have, so I'm going with Gautemalan.

Thanks for responding.
